GlobalGraphicsWorks is up and running. For years I have collected vintage and antique works on paper and all types and examples of graphic art from all over the world - with a heavy concentration of graphic art from the United States, Mexico and France. Some of it is quite rare, all of it wonderful to look at. Now, thanks to Etsy.com I'd like to share what I've collected and enjoyed and offer these graphic works to you for sale to you in either their original form or as digital prints. I'd like to start by introducing you to Ernesto Garcia "El Chango" Cabral, Mexico's greatest graphic artist of the 20th century, as well as a brilliant political and satirical cartoonist, caricaturist, and illustrator - when he had time from his work as Mexico's leading movie poster artist. Right now I'm showing some striking examples of magazine cover work done by Cabral from the 1920s through the 1960s. I am lucky enough to be one of three holders of an entire run of Fantoche, a Mexican satirical magazine written, drawn and published by Garcia Cabral from 1929 to early 1930 - 65 weekly (1 year and 13 weeks) issues of social commentary in a 28 to 32 page weekly magazine. The art work, all covers, front and back, were by Cabral himself, and are still remarkably vibrant and alive these 80+ years later. How they survived so long is clearly a wonderful story but for now I'm making digital prints of the front and back covers available, as well as prime examples of other illustration work by Cabral. I've watermarked them as they will appear here but please know that the watermark is not on the print that goes to you. The prints themselves are done on archival photo paper on an Epson Photo Stylus printer using Epson archival inks. The images have not been colorized or enhanced in any way. The colors as you see them are as they appear on the original magazines and have simply been scanned and printed. Simple is better. Cabral was a genius. And visit often for what's next. What's next will include digital prints of the caricatures of the famous from Mexico and the US that Cabral was famous for, straight from the pages of Fantoche 1929-1930, as well as digital prints of the ads from those pages and those years. The art work is astounding and has not been seen for decades.
I'm also offering work by the first great Mexican graphic artist, Jose Posada, the creator of the calavera, primarily at first from a portfolio of his work from 1960 called La Revolution Mexicana. Wonderful images.
From France will be graphic work on paper from the French magazine Illustration which was a huge force in graphic publishing from the 1920s on.
From the good old USA I've got pages from the early days - 1930s-40s - from Fortune magazine, the acknowledged home of outstanding graphic work in America.
The pages from Fortune are 11x14 and are amazing.
Antique and vintage children's books from here and abroad - actual pages or digital prints - will also be available.
