So Many Beads, So Little Time
I started designing and creating jewelry after a I bought a rather pricey necklace at a crafts fair and it broke after one wearing. As I looked at the individual components, I thought, "I can fix this.” So I headed off to one of the local crafts stores and was overwhelmed , yet fascinated by the vast selection of beads. I went home and started watching YouTube videos and I was hooked.
As I continued to watch videos and learn the language of jewelry making, I sought out classes because I wanted to advance beyond making “stretchy bracelets.” As any jewelry designer will tell you, beads quickly become an obsession. It also became a way for me to relax from a very stressful job by stimulating my left brain.
I consider myself a fashionista and I love accessories especially one of a kind unique jewelry items, for I believe no woman wants to see herself. My challenge in creating jewelry was to find my design aesthetic and design voice. For me it was incorporating my heritage, my faith and my style in my designs.
For me the inspiration road led to Africa, it is the ancestral homeland of all mankind. You will find the colors, textures, symbols and gemstones of Africa prominently displayed in my jewelry designs.
