Turning ideas into products!
On a recent visit to my parents' house, I found a stuffed bear I dreamed up and sewed when I was a child. It didn't have any feet, just a head, arms and a long curved body. It had an appropriate name based on its looks: Boot. I've come a long way since then and now that I have my own kids, I've been sewing plush toys, costumes, tents, bags and you-name-it for years. As my experience grew, I found I was improvising so much that even if I started with a pattern, I was soon adapting it to fit my own ideas.
I really enjoy the process of turning my thoughts into physical products. The more three-dimensional, the better! In the beginning, I only made quick sketches for impromptu sewing projects. I rarely made the same thing twice because I even deviated from my own notes the second time around. Gradually I started making patterns through a combination of hand drawings, physical models and computer design. I love combining the hands-on work with computer drawings and even some 3D digital modelling. And the thought process of creating clear and concise instructions to accompany my patterns really appeals to the engineer in me!
I recently opened GreenCatPatterns with my first for-sale sewing patterns: Max the Monkey and Peppers the Pig. I'm currently working on my next project and I'm full of ideas for many more! I hope you stop by again soon to see what's new!
