Frequently asked questions

Are your flies tied overseas?

No, all flies sold through this Etsy shop are tied in the USA by me, personally.

Are the flies sold in this shop your own designs?

Yes, they are.

Did the Turck Tarantula really win the Jackson Hole One Fly Event?

Yes, it did, back in 1990 in the hands of George Anderson. And then again in, I believe it was 1998, my friend John Gendall won the Pro division with a Tarantula. But the One Fly Event website history data only goes back to 2005 so I have not been able to definitively confirm the year, and my memory is hazy.

Is the Turck Tarantula just a trout fly?

No, not really. Over the years, anglers from all over the world have told me stories of catching everything from largemouth and smallmouth bass, channel cats, bluegill and crappie, grass carp, seatrout, northern pike and more.

I've been told the Tarantula has caught Atlantic Salmon. Do I believe it? I don't know, the story came from a fisherman after all.

But I've been told it works on the big trout in Alaska, that don't take dries, from a personal friend that guided up there. I say all this knowing I risk not being believed, and I don't have the first hand experience to confirm this, but maybe someone else will :)

Is it getting harder to source the orignial, proper materials to tie your fly patterns as originally conceived?

Is it, but so far I have not had to make any compromises and hopefully I never have to.
