About

A 35 year love story, still going strong

In the mid 1970s, when I was 16, some friends and I went to an open-air flea market near Franklin, North Carolina. It was one of those endlessly long, hot summer days, and we were bored, looking for something, anything, to do... I had never been to a flea market, and I had no way of knowing as I parked my little green Karman Ghia and trudged through the gravel with my friends to get to the first booth that I was about to fall truly madly deeply in love, for the first time, and forever... with vintage. I picked up a blue beaded necklace from the 1950s, died a little at the beauty of the rhinestones and the flowers and the colors, saw the price tag - twenty-five cents - and WHAM. Pretty sure that's what the thought bubble over my head said in that moment: WHAM.

Two years later, I met Kay, and WHAM... it happened again :) Eventually I dragged her to the nearest thrift shop where we were living then, in Chapel Hill, NC, and in spite of some initial reluctance ("Ewwwww! Used clothes? Ewwwwww!") she fell hard for vintage, too, the second I showed her the faded-to-perfection elephant bell blue jeans with neon psychedelic hippie print fabric inserts in her size for fifty cents... yeah, you guessed it: WHAM.

So here we are, 35 years later, and I still have the necklace as well as the girl :) Now true vintage ourselves, with three grown and nearly-grown children, two of whom live with us, two dogs, three cats, a granddog and a grandpig, we work in our home hidden in the woods near the beautiful city of Charlotte. Kay, an artist since she was born, became a licensed silversmith and a true rockhound over the years, and you can find her gorgeous handmade jewelry as well as lapidary supplies and very cool rocks at Gypsum Moon Rocks here on etsy:

We also bring you the best of the best in vintage and antiques for your home and your office in Gypsum Moon Vintage, also here on etsy:

I'd love to offer you a cup of coffee - always a fresh-brewed pot around here with this crew - to sip while you browse our shops, but since I can't, grab your beverage of choice, relax, and enjoy :)

Shipping
We like to make our pennies squeal, and we'll do our best to make yours squeal for you, too, by charging you what we're charged for shipping. Domestic shipping fees are based on east coast (where we are) to west coast, so it's entirely possible that domestic shipping to your location might be less - send us a convo with your zip code to find out, and we'll happily adjust your shipping charges. If you've already paid, we'll happily refund the difference. We love to combine shipping, so shop to your heart's content. We use clean, recycled packing materials to keep your shipping costs even lower.

Inside the US, we ship via the US Post Office: first class for packages up to 13 ounces, priority mail for packages over 13 ounces to about 3 pounds, and parcel select for packages over 3 pounds - the savings is significant. For international packages, we ship via USPS first class international for packages weighing up to 4 pounds; anything over that has to go priority first class.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you're not happy, let us know. We'll work things out to the mutual satisfaction of everyone.
Additional policies and FAQs
We want you to love the fit of the things you buy from us, so please, always always ALWAYS check the individual measurements of vintage items against an item you already wear, because clothing sizes really have changed dramatically over the years. Choose a similar item from your own closet that fits you well and compare the measurements of that piece to the ones you're looking at here. It really only takes a few minutes, and it's well worth the time and trouble - no fun to order something that doesn't fit! Drop us a line if you have any questions on the measurements, or on how to measure. We take all measurements with the items laid flat or hanging.
