These lil' clay babes will be listed at 11am central! Please make sure to read the item description for dimension details since my pictures don't reference the size. Also, some have quirks that I will discount, and I want you to know what you're buying!

I've got my head in the clouds and hands in the mud.

My name is Deanna Steinborn, and to me, ceramics represents magic, nature, art and the beauty hidden inside small, quiet moments. I had my first encounter with making ceramics in a college course in 2011, and I fell in love. I’d always loved art, but never has something captured my interest so much as playing in the mud. I am currently an artist in residence at a gallery, shop, and classroom in downtown Springfield, MO called Springfield Pottery. I genuinely believe that one could spend an entire lifetime exploring the myriad avenues this art form provides and I'm excited to continue exploring new techniques, various materials, and the endless possibilities of form.

I am currently focused on creating functional pieces, such as dinnerware, because I love that ceramics bridges the gap between art to be admired and the tactile relationship between the objects we encounter every day. I love the idea that someone wakes up every morning with his or her cup of coffee, spending their quiet moments of the day holding my mug in their hands, exploring the space where my own hands have devoted hours of love and care. These are the moments I am excited to be a part of.

For my design aesthetic, I have the most fun experimenting with all sorts of decorative techniques. Over all, I love an intricate pattern or texture. I want the eyes, hands and lips to be able to explore the surface of my forms. Most of my patterns are inspired by nature, and I love to incorporate both the symmetrical, ordered aspect of nature as well as the more free-flowing, organic qualities.

Both the process of decorating as well as forming my pieces has been a form of meditation for me, and I am so grateful to have found my niche. I fully expect for my ceramics to not only grow with me, but to help me grow as I become more connected to the earth, to other people, and to myself.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Alas, I am unable to accept custom orders at the moment.

I am a part-time potter, and unfortunately don't have enough hours in a day to be able to fulfill commissions as well as release regular shop updates.

In order to give everyone equal opportunity, I will not hold pieces - it is solely first come, first serve via Etsy updates.

Care instructions

All of my pieces are food, microwave (*unless they have gold luster!), and dishwasher safe.

As a personal preference though, any piece of handmade pottery I have ever bought I have dedicated to washing by hand. The pieces are able to withstand the dishwasher, but I like to take care of handmade items with the same amount of love and care that was put into them!

*If the piece has gold luster anywhere on it, do NOT put it in the microwave. Bad things will happen, chaos will ensue. You have been warned!

*Also, if a piece has gold luster on it then hand washing is preferable to using the dishwasher in order to maintain that beautiful gold shine!

Wholesale availability

I am not offering wholesale work at the moment - but I really appreciate the interest!

Perhaps in the future, but with my current schedule it is just not possible for me unfortunately.

Tips for Purchasing

Pieces tend to sell quickly!

In order to snag a piece, I recommend two things:

1) Have my shop page open and refreshed the minute listings are activated. Once I have a specific date and time I plan to do an update, I will list that information here as well as in my profile description on Instagram.

2) Have your Etsy account already set up with your payment and shipping information saved so that when you click to buy a piece you can proceed through the checkout process quickly. Having a piece in your cart, or even mid-check out does not guaranty it for you. It is only yours once you finish the last step in the purchasing process, and if someone else clicks that button a moment quicker, you may miss out on that sale.

Will there be previews for updates?

If I have enough time, I will create a page on my personal website with a preview of the items I will have for sale. Find my website by clicking "About" and then the "Website" link in the around the web section.

There, I will post pictures of all or most of the pieces along with their designated number. The listing titles on Etsy will contain that number so you can find them quickly.

Tip: Hold down Ctrl & F on your keyboard (or use the search in page function on your mobile device) and search for the specific number of the piece you're interested in, in order to quickly locate it - they may not be listed in chronological order!
