Ciao, mi chiamo Geraldine Handa. Sono una mamma e sono sposata con il mio amorevole marito da 15 anni. Lavoro part-time. Sono nato nelle Filippine e sono venuto qui negli Stati Uniti vent'anni fa su una petizione di mia madre e mio padre. Ora sono un cittadino statunitense e vivo a San Clemente, in California, con mio marito, due figli e due parrocchetti domestici. Lavoro sui miei progetti Etsy durante l'ora di pranzo e di notte quando i miei figli dormono. Questo è uno dei modi in cui posso rilassarmi e fornirmi un buon sollievo dallo stress!
Durante i miei giorni liberi, quando i miei figli sono a scuola, posso lavorare a casa sugli ordini dei clienti e controllare il mio negozio Etsy. Tutti i miei articoli sono fatti a mano da me con i miei disegni. Ho i diritti d'autore su tutti i miei modelli.
Nei fine settimana, a mio marito, ai miei figli e a me stesso piace stare a casa e rilassarci dalla settimana precedente. A volte i nostri fine settimana sono occupati da uscite Cub Scout, o uscite di padre e figlia della principessa indiana. Ci piace anche guardare film e visitare le due nonne il più spesso possibile. Ho imparato a suonare il pianoforte quando ero una ragazza nelle Filippine e mi piace suonare quando ho la possibilità di rilassarmi.
Quando sono a casa mi tengo occupato con le pulizie, il giardinaggio o andare al negozio. Uno dei miei hobby è la fotografia. Abbiamo acquistato alcune luci da studio e creato uno studio fotografico nel nostro salotto. Fotografo sempre le mie nuove creazioni e le pubblico sul mio negozio Etsy.
Beh, non sono mai stato un artista, ma sono sempre stato una persona creativa. Quando ero in terza elementare, vivevo con mia sorella. Quando è andata al college, ha assunto una tata, che mi ha insegnato come lavorare all'uncinetto. Quando mi sono sposato, ho fatto tutte le bomboniere per gli ospiti del ricevimento. Più tardi ho imparato a lavorare a maglia in una lezione presa nel mio negozio di filati locale. Da quel momento in poi, ho imparato molte idee e tecniche per creare i miei numerosi disegni. Un paio di anni fa, mi sono imbattuto in Etsy. Dopo un paio di mesi, ho aperto il mio negozio e ho cercato di vendere il mio design di giacca di mela. Sono rimasto sorpreso dalla risposta! Alla fine ho creato il mio design di maggior successo, il Monster Shark Cozy per le bottiglie d'acqua e il Monster Shark Sleeve per le tazze di caffè.
Ogni mattina prima di essere pronto per andare al lavoro (lavoro regolare) accendo il computer e controllo la mia e-mail e vedo se ho ordini in arrivo. Lavoro dal mio lavoro regolare dalle 7:00 alle 2:30 e vado a prendere i miei figli a scuola. Dopo i compiti e la cena, inizio a lavorare sui miei ordini e inizio a sperimentare nuovi design. Ho molte idee in mente e realizzo molti prototipi. Alcuni li vendo su Etsy, altri li regalo! Trascorro molto tempo nei negozi di filati locali e Michaels, alla ricerca del filato giusto per realizzare i miei progetti.
Il mio progetto più caro è il mio Monster Shark. Un paio di anni fa, io e mio marito abbiamo dovuto fare una grande testa di squalo di cartapesta per i Cub Scouts. Era alto circa 45 "con solo la testa. L'abbiamo dipinto di blu e si è rivelato fantastico! Dopo un paio di giorni, stavo scattando foto dello squalo e mia figlia voleva farsi una foto nella testa dello squalo. Era abbastanza grande da passare sopra mia figlia, e la sua faccia era proprio nella bocca dello squalo. Ho guardato la foto e ho pensato: "Lo squalo mostro sta mangiando mia figlia!" Fu allora che l'idea di realizzare le Monster Shark Sleeves mi venne in mente per la prima volta. Ora ho il portabottiglie d'acqua Monster Shark e il porta biberon Monster Shark.

Hi, my name is Geraldine Handa. I’m a mom and have been married to my loving husband for 15 years. I work a part time job. I was born in the Philippines and came here to the United States twenty years ago on a petition by my Mom and Dad. I am now a US citizen, and am living in San Clemente, CA with my husband, two children, and two pet parakeets. I work on my Etsy projects during my lunch hour and at night when my kids are asleep. This is the one of the ways I can relax and provide myself with good stress relief!
During my days off, when my kids are at school, I can work at home on customer orders and check my Etsy shop. All my items are hand made by me from my own designs. I have copyrights on all my patterns.
On the weekends, my husband, kids, and myself, like to stay home and relax from the previous week. Sometimes our weekends are taken up by Cub Scout outings, or Indian Princess father and daughter outings. We enjoy also watching movies and visit the two Grandmas as often as possible. I learned to play the piano when I was a girl in the Philippines and like to play when I get a chance to relax.
When I’m at home I keep myself busy with cleaning, gardening, or going to the store. One of my hobbies is photography. We purchased some studio lights and created a photography studio in our living room. I always photograph my new creations and post them to my Etsy shop.
Well, I have never been an artist, but I have always been a creative person. When I was in the third grade, I lived with my sister. When she went to college, she hired a nanny, who taught me how to crochet. When I got married, I made all the wedding favors for the reception guests. Later on I learned how to knit in a class taken at my local yarn shop. From that point on, I learned a lot of ideas and techniques to create my many designs. A couple of years ago, I came across Etsy. After a couple of months, I opened my own shop and tried to sell my apple jacket design. I was surprised at the response! Eventually I created my most successful design, the Monster Shark Cozy for water bottles and Monster Shark Sleeve for coffee cups.
Every morning before I’m ready to go to work (regular work) I turn on my computer and check my email and see if I have incoming orders. I work from my regular job from 7:00 till 2:30 and pick up my kids from school. After homework and dinner, I begin working on my orders and begin experimenting with new designs. I have a lot of ideas in my mind and make many prototypes. Some I sell on Etsy, others I give away as gifts! I spend a lot of time at the local yarn shops and Michaels, looking for the right yarn to make my projects.
My most cherished project is my Monster Shark. A couple of years ago, my husband and I had to make a large paper-mâché shark head for the Cub Scouts. It was about 45” tall with just the head. We painted it blue and it turned out great! After a couple of days later, I was taking pictures of the shark and my daughter wanted to get a picture of herself in the shark’s head. It was big enough to go over my daughter, and her face was right in the shark’s mouth. I looked at the picture and was thinking, “The monster shark is eating my daughter!” That’s when the idea to make the Monster Shark Sleeves first popped into my head. Now I have the Monster Shark water bottle holder and Monster Shark baby bottle holder.
