Shop policies
An amazingly creative man, my great grandfather started making handcarved chairs and tables, which were very popular and a must have in every house in those times.
Due to high demand and because no other artisan made them, he started also making chess tables. He did everything with so few tools and so hard work that today we cannot possibly imagine that.
His sons and grandsons kept the tradition alive and developed further their knowledge, work and tools about wooden crafts.
My father has 4 brothers, all raised in terrible times through wars and extreme poverty. They needed to create also something new, so they can make a living and have families.
To enrich the selection of crafts , they made also chessboards and secret puzzle boxes. No matter what, they never thought of doing anything else than the wooden crafts they were taught to do from their parents and grandparents.
My father is an extraordinary gentleman who made mainly chess in his life, but also others .
To make our family business complete , my father sent me to an exquisite local artisan who was famous for making magnificent chess pieces. I was lucky that I could learn my profession from a man who was truly passionate about what he was doing. The way he taught me to spindle he turned this profession for me into one of the most wonderful ones on earth.
Now, in our family we can make everything. My father and my mother make the chessboards, my wife and I we are making the chess pieces and the backgammon pieces, and together all four of us we are making the secret boxes and the rest of wooden toys or home decor items.
We love our job, and hope we have a small contribution of keeping the wonderful tradition of woodworking specific to Transylvania alive as much as we can.

On the magic puzzle boxes there can be deviations between the carvings, for the simple fact that it is entirely handcarved. There are no two boxes which are 100% the same. They are very similar to each other, and the rest is art...
