Eco-Friendly Dog Products, Handmade in San Diego.
I started making eco-friendly collars for dogs in 2006. Although there are a lot of collars in the world, I could not find cute, eco-friendly versions. As an environmental scientist, I was not interested in synthetic collars. So I decided on hemp (with all of its awesome properties) and made one for my golden retriever. He’s a beach dog that would rather live in the ocean than on land. His pack includes a dachshund, two black labs, and a little maltese…all of which field-test new designs and fabrics. He's a happy boy.
I got my start selling at my local farmer’s markets in San Diego, which was an amazing experience. It allowed me to solicit real-time feedback, measure and fit collars for so many dog breeds, and grow from the support of my community. Although I no longer sell at the farmer’s markets, I still feel tied to the market community after spending so many years there.
Now I focus on selling online, in local stores, and wholesale across the globe. Handmade Green is still located in San Diego, California, USA, where all of our products are made. Our line of products includes the original hemp collars, leashes, vintage elevated feeders (when I can find the materials), and special wholesale collections.
Our collars are made using strong and sustainable hemp webbing, cotton fabrics, and quality hardware. The durable construction and leather rivets set our handmade collars apart from the rest of the pack.
Throughout the year, our profits benefit many pet organizations, including Guide Dogs for the Blind, the Barking Lot, SPCA, and other rescue groups throughout the year.
