Siempre me ha encantado el tamaño compacto de las Field Notes, pero llevarlas sueltas en el bolsillo trasero significaba que no duraban mucho. Con los años, me dediqué a buscar la funda "perfecta". Probé algunas con bolsillos, fundas y ranuras para tarjetas, pero enseguida se convirtieron en ladrillos voluminosos, desordenados y de cinco centímetros de grosor; algo que no me apetecía sentarme encima todo el día.
Travelers Notebook fue lo que más se acercó a la perfección. Su diseño minimalista y bien pensado me cautivó y reflejó la artesanía japonesa que admiro. Aun así, su tamaño nunca fue del todo adecuado para el uso diario: el tamaño A4 era demasiado grande para un bolsillo trasero, y el tamaño pasaporte me pareció un poco pequeño para el uso que le doy a un cuaderno.

Happy Jack Journal Covers grew out of my love for Japanese craftsmanship and the simple, no-nonsense utility of Field Notes. It all really started with an idea that stuck with me—if something is worth thinking about, it’s worth writing down. That belief was shaped during my freshman-year English class with Professor Charles Hicks, whose passion for the written word made a lasting impression on me. He drilled into us that putting pen to paper turns thoughts into something real and tangible.
I’ve always loved the compact size of Field Notes, but carrying them loose in my back pocket meant they didn’t last very long. Over the years, I went down the rabbit hole looking for the “perfect” cover. I tried ones with pockets, sleeves, and card slots, but they quickly turned into bulky, cluttered, two-inch-thick bricks—hardly something I wanted to sit on all day.
Travelers Notebook came closest to getting it right. Their minimalist, thoughtful design really resonated with me and reflected the Japanese craftsmanship I admire. Still, their sizing never quite worked for everyday carry—the A4 was way too big for a back pocket, and the passport size felt just a bit too small for how I use a notebook.
That led me back to the idea that less is more. I wanted something simple, durable, and practical for real daily use. Happy Jack covers are intentionally minimal but tough—designed to protect your notebooks without adding unnecessary bulk.
