It all started with a cow!
When my oldest daughter transitioned from being a Teacher to a Principal, I wanted to make something unique for her. Her school mascot was a Yearling, so I found a pattern online for a cow, went shopping for yarn, and made my first ever animal. This was quite an accomplishment for me, because prior to that, I'd only made afghans and potholders my entire life, and my skills had barely evolved from granny squares to a shell pattern!
Shortly after this, when my 2nd daughter was pregnant with her first child, she requested a cow also (her husband is in the cattle business!) The second time around was much easier, and seemed to be finished in no time. Then she asked what I thought about making a giraffe! We looked at a few pictures and it wasn't long before a colorful and fun striped giraffe was sitting on my lap staring back at me. I will have to admit, I was rather proud of myself! :)
From cow, to giraffe ... and on to a teddy bear! At this point I was on a roll ... so why stop with just 2 ... I found a teddy bear pattern and tackled that as well. I couldn't wait for her baby shower so that I could see her face when she opened these animals!
That was the day it all really began. I got animal requests from friends and even requests from people I didn't know! I started a FaceBook page in 2014, which I named Harley's Ark, after my new granddaughter, and started selling online. After a wonderful year on FB I decided to try Etsy and opened my shop in 2015. I try to add in new animals here and there, and I'm always excited when someone asks me to try something new. This is the best way for me to decide what to add to my collection next!
