Cheerful decorations made lovingly by hand in Australia.
A good handful of years ago I was living in London, UK. I was managing events in the UK and RoI but decided to take my career in a different path and launched my own business as a full-time freelance photographer. It was Christmas time and I was searching online for Domo cufflinks. I thought they would make the perfect comedy Secret Santa gift for a friend. Many of the search results led to Etsy.com but at the time I had no idea what that was.
Head-over-heels in love, I couldn't sign up fast enough. My collection of favourites grew every day and a short time later I was shopping on Etsy for handmade and vintage treasures to fit as many occasions as I could find. After a few months, I became a seller when I listed some of my photographs for sale. Every now-and-then a sale would come through and I would almost spin off my chair.
Shortly afterwards I borrowed a sewing machine from a friend and began sewing fabric bunting for fun and relaxation. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to list a small collection in my shop and Good Will Bunting® was brought to life!
Good Will Bunting® - a range of cheerful decorations lovingly made by hand in Australia - can now be found in the home, garden, office and parties of fabulous people all around the world, and custom designs have featured in campaigns by Ralph Lauren, Speedo and Cosmopolitan Magazine. Feeling very passionate about what Etsy meant to crafters, artists, and, in general, people like me, I wanted to become more involved. It was then that my enthusiasm for teaching craft photography was ignited. I photographed an Etsy UK meet up, began giving product photography tutorials, and wrote two articles for the Etsy Blog. A UK publisher found my articles and became interested in developing a book about photography for crafters.
Fast forward to today... My book has been published in the UK, USA + Canada, Australia + New Zealand, Japan, France, Hungarian, Romanian, and, soon, Simplified Chinese. I now regularly teach photography workshops designed especially for crafters.
I'm loving Etsy more than ever and I adore meeting the wonderful people in this marketplace. It's a great feeling to create and make, with love and care, items that my customers connect with and want to enjoy in their home, whether locally or from around the world.
I moved back home to Australia at the end of 2010. I married my sweetheart, Will, in 2011, and we moved into our first home in 2012. We're working on renovating the studio, and, when we do, I'll be sure to post some photos here for you to see.
I'm born and raised in the Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia, and so is Will. We feel at home here and are thrilled to be back, living and working in the place we love, pottering around in our garden and watching our two nephews grow.
