Iowa Potter
Howdy All,
I am a ceramic artist from Iowa. Second generation. I have the privilege of studying under master potters Steve and Miky Cunningham. (a.k.a. dad and mom)

A little about my process:
I work with white stoneware and porcelain. I mostly handbuild and create a few wheel thrown elements.
I am currently focusing on a sgraffito surface ("sgraffito: a form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color.")
I enjoy carving it deep to emulate wood block carvings and then adding a pop of color.
I also play with mishima ("Mishima is a technique of inlaying slip, underglaze, or even clay into a contrasting clay body, the main clay body of the pottery piece. This technique allows for extremely fine, intricate design work with hard, sharp edges that can be difficult to reliably replicate in any other way.")
I love creating and working with bold, saturated, and contrasting techniques.
My main motifs are hares and the midwest prairie. I stride to create work that is whimsical, pensive, and modern. It should have a feel of being handmade with lots of heart and love. I create all of my own glazes and finish my work in a reduction kiln and or soda kiln.
I travel around showing my work at art shows and a few galleries.
