Welcome to HelloMelonbug! My name is Julie, and I am the shop owner and product designer. I am an RN by profession and have worked in the maternal/child area all my career. Creating and selling children's gifts online has been my hobby/“side business" for over 18 years, since my own children were little. I have sewn twirly dresses and Halloween costumes, embroidered chenille bibs and felt hair clips, and sold hand painted ceramic plates and plaques on my website. In 2022, when my own personal "nest" emptied, I took a new direction with my creativity and created Melonbug. Creating keepsakes that make people smile is my passion. Building my creativity into a business is my dream, and I hope for it to take me into the grandparent years and even into retirement.
What does Melonbug mean? My son, Jesse, is a graphic designer. While building his portfolio, he created an adorable logo for my previous business, Polkadots & Moonbeams. It was bright and colorful in fuchsia and green and resembled a wedge-shaped bug. In creating a new name for my new business, I wanted to honor this sweet logo that came from his imagination. Thus, Melonbug was born!
I work with babies every day, and am blessed to be able to share in the excitement and pride of new moms and dads, and of first-time (or 10th time!) grandmas and grandpas. I also fondly recall the sweet days when my little ones were babies and toddlers. With these special life moments in mind, I strive to create gifts that are unique, personalizable, and will become treasured keepsakes of childhood. My hope is that YOU will find joy in adding personal touches to these gifts, and are excited to present them to your loved ones. And when the gift is opened, I hope the recipient squeals with surprise (and possibly even sheds a tear!) when they receive something that is made specifically for them, from you.
My visions, designs, stories, poems, and ideas are brought to life through collaboration with freelance artists and graphic designers from all over the world.
