Hello, I’m Ruth, the maker and designer behind Hello Ruth.
My journey into handmade keepsake gifts began long before I started my business. After graduating from art college, I built my career in the film industry, working as a Graphic Artist and Draughtsperson in the art departments of major productions. I was lucky enough to contribute to films including Children of Men and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, where every project was built around storytelling, detail and creating emotional connection through design.
Working in film taught me how powerful small details can be. A carefully designed prop, handwritten letter or meaningful visual detail can tell an entire story. That idea stayed with me and eventually became the foundation of Hello Ruth.
I wanted to create something more personal, meaningful handmade gifts that help people celebrate their own stories.
Today, I design and handmake personalised cards, origami keepsakes and letter gifts from my home studio in the beautiful Chilterns, where I live with my husband, our two teenagers and our two cats. My studio is where every idea begins and every order is carefully made by hand.
What makes my work special is the personal connection behind each piece.
Many of my products incorporate photographs supplied by my customers, turning treasured memories into keepsake gifts that feel deeply personal and unique.
Whether it’s a hidden photo reveal inside an origami design, a heartfelt letter keepsake, or a handmade card created for a milestone moment, my aim is always the same: to create something worth keeping.
In a world where so much is temporary, I believe cards and gifts can be more than a momentary gesture. They can become lasting keepsakes, reminders of love, celebration, memory and connection.
Origami plays a big part in many of my designs because I love the transformation of paper into something unexpected and meaningful. Combined with personal photographs and thoughtful words, it creates gifts that feel intimate and one of a kind.
Quality matters deeply to me. Every product is made using carefully chosen, high-quality materials sourced from UK suppliers wherever possible. From the paper stock to the finishing details, I choose materials designed to last and feel special. I also care about how my products reach you, which is why all packaging is chosen with sustainability in mind.
Running Hello Ruth from home allows me to balance creativity with family life, and I feel incredibly grateful that my work has become part of so many important moments - birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, new babies, memorials and messages of love.
For me, the most meaningful gifts are the ones that tell a story.
