I have some unique jewelry from my ostentatious grandmother along with some custom designed pieces that were designed for my mother (by my artist father) that I don't wear. I have sons ... some items I will keep for their wives, the youngest is 12 so it may be a while, I'd like to see them go to someone who will be able to cherish and wear them now.
I am not selling to third party vendors or auction houses because I would like to know who they go to. At some point, I may get pieces from another source, but ideally I would like to offer items from people who have inherited and/or been given things, as opposed to shopping at thrift stores, auctions or estate sales and reselling them with a mark up. I think of it as jewelry adoption.
