House on the Hill
My passion for upcycled clothing comes from a desire to wear something different than anyone else. I've never been a "trend" kind of person, so I don't have interest in the latest fads. I'm sure there are several others out there with the same desire as mine.
First step was throwing everything out of my closet that didn't make me feel beautiful and all of the clothes that made me feel older than I am. I got rid of pieces that made me feel fat. I exhausted Pinterest looking for outfit ideas and found that the clothing I liked was either not my size, or was way too revealing for my taste.
I thought to myself: Hey! I can sew! I use to sew all of the time when I was young. I started sewing when I was 10. Mom was afraid to let me use the sewing machine, so, I sewed by hand. My Grandma (Grandma Sugar) was an amazing, creative, crafty person. She was a huge influence on my love for sewing. Even then, I was taking old clothes and turning them into something new and different. My younger sister and brothers appreciated that I could clothe every doll we had.
I got away from making my own clothes back in the 80's. No time........story of my life. Fast forward several years and I just have to make time.
Now, I am married to a wonderful man, we have four kids and a house on the hill. When I say a house on the hill, I mean it. Our driveway is pretty steep. You can't even see our house from the main road. People probably wonder all of the time, "what is up there?".
Part of opening this shop is to teach my daughter to sew. I also want her to learn skills that she can take into the real world someday. She is an aspiring artist as well. You will see some of her work on here as prints. I hope you enjoy our new adventure and evolve with us. We want to share our art and our heart with you.
