Probably like many creative people on Etsy, one thing led to another and then its official. In my case, I have been on a continuing quest to learn about my ancestors. I have found my ancestors on the rolls and I am proud of my Cherokee heritage.
While exploring my roots I ventured toward the flute. I enjoyed the music so much I thought maybe I should give it a try. Then of course, you have to have a flute bag. So I got myself a piece of leather and started in. I had a blast! Everyone who saw it went crazy over it so I got some more leather...and some more ..... and some more, and here we are! I had made purchases on Etsy before and I thought that trying it out may be a good way for me to continue my craft. Leather is expensive and in order to support my hobby turned business I needed to make some sales.....ha...to buy more leather...... Now, its not just leather, its beads and fur, feathers and all kinds of things.
As my work and style have developed with experience I have found that creating items that tell a story are one of my favorite things to do. Every element of a piece can have meaning. The beads, stones, symbols, even the scars in the leather can tell a story. I have made memorial bags to honor people, pets, and even new starts in life. I have made pregnancy bags, story purses, moccasins and even clothing that tell a story. Being able to tell a story with the elements that I use in my creations is an honor and a gift that I value very much.
