Inspiration came from the most unexpected place
I fashioned these earrings in the 90's upon seeing a beautiful scrap of discarded paper. Literally discarded...sitting (cleanly and in pristine condition) at the top of a heap of trash inside the dumpster when I lifted the lid to throw my trash in. This is really-truly how it happened. Taken by the paper's beautiful patterns and colors I was moved to rescue it from the dumpster to see how I might be able to re-use it. It was, after all, in pristine condition. After giving it some thought, I decided to fashion the scrap of paper into a pair of earrings.
Feeling quite pleased with the end result, I gave the finished pair of earrings to my mother for Mother's Day. When she wore the earrings to work she received many compliments on their appearance coupled with inquiries about where she had purchased such a pair of unique earrings. Before I knew it, and quite unexpectedly, I received a call from my mother asking me if I would consider making earrings for her friends at work. Having ample time on my hands, I said "sure!" and began my creative journey in the process of making more earrings.
In addition to using paper, I began to experiment with fabric and various types of trim. As I blissfully played with paper and fabric and trim, different designs began to emerge and before I knew it a collection of hoop earrings was born, along with a healthy and rewarding side hustle.
The earrings that you see here are what remain of my inventory from the 90's. I will not be making new pieces so please bear that in mind. Once these earrings are sold, new pieces will not replace them. So if you see you see a pair that you like, please purchase them because once they are gone, they are gone!
