The story of Howard Conrad Leather Co goes back to childhood. I frequently noticed that wallets made from cloth and fake leather tended to fall apart and diminish in quality over time. My first attempt at making a wallet was with duct tape. Though it was entirely synthetic, it still managed to fare better than big brand genuine leather wallets.
Eventually, through a general love of leather goods, whether Stetson boots, Nicks boots, or Saddleback leather bags, an idea was hatched. Why not produce a top-grain leather wallet at a price point that does justice to the craftsmanship and materials?
The first patterns had several issues, but after hours of research into construction methods and the products of other small shops, the first viable bifold pattern was created. Several of these bifolds were sold at local fairs and venues, but success was limited. Pattern improvement and diversification of styles were required.
The original bifold pattern, which I still use today, could fit 25 cards, 19 business cards, and cash after a break-in. A common complaint, however, was that the initial fitment was too tight. The pattern was revised to provide a slightly looser fit while maintaining structural rigidity. Every pattern produced to this day is tested before becoming available to ensure quality.
Our position is to provide the highest quality handmade leather goods at the best price on the market. This is a small operation, which means we do not use die cutters that cut the entire wallet pattern at once. Every panel of every wallet is cut by hand with a ruler and razor blade. Every stitch line is hand-punched with a chisel and sewn using a traditional saddle stitch, the strongest sewing method available, which stitches in two directions and secures the wallet from both sides.
Every edge of a wallet is sanded by hand with sandpaper, then dyed, oiled, waxed, and burnished by hand using natural materials. The story of HC Leather Co. is still only beginning, but our promise is clear: to produce the best quality leather goods in a traditional way, for the best price.

They are structurally bombproof yet not bulky enough to be uncomfortable, and my original wallet has only become more broken in and looks even better with age. There is great care taken with details, smooth edges and stitching. These wallets will last me a lifetime, highly recommend!

The leather is soft but it still feels really sturdy, unlike leathers used by bigger name brands and other shops I've purchased from that use thinner leather cuts. Quality stitching, as well. The Leathers used for all items in this shop are full grain leather. The strength of the leather comes from the top grain.
Thread ?
Ritza Tiger thread, its the industry standard for hand made saddle stitched wallets. I primarily use sizes .8mm and 1mm depending on the wallet and style.
