A Second Business By Accident...
After turning a wood working hobby into a full time business in 2012, (www.HowellsProducts.etsy.com) I then turned to home coffee roasting as my next hobby...thinking that I could save money on coffee by roasting my own beans. Boy was I wrong! At the time I was paying about $7 per pound for store bought whole bean coffee. I was shocked when I discovered that most green coffee beans purchased in small 1-5+ pounds were $6-$7 per pound at the only local green bean retailer in Portland. Not wanting to give up on home roasting, I did some searching and found a local broker who sells green beans in the 100-154 pound burlap bags. ...fast forward to present day...I now bring in 30-40 bags of coffee each month. I roast and consumer my portion, and the rest I parcel out into small quantities and sell online. I also sell full bags to a handful of Portland area roasters. Being that this is not my primary business, I am not in it to make huge profits...that is why I am not selling my beans for $5-$6 per pound. I make enough to keep a cash flow which allows me to expand my line of beans and offer to you on the highest quality specialty grade beans...and I drink some pretty good coffee too!
At the very least, try my beans and see if they are not just as high of quality, if not higher than the big online green bean companies. Then join the hundreds of home roasters who have made the switch to the small green coffee bean start-up company who offers the lowest prices on the highest quality green beans around.
