Why Sahí?
Sahí translates to Earth in the language of the Los Guahibos, an indigenous Colombian tribe who live and promote a life connected and guided by nature.
A few years ago while travelling, I landed in Medellin with the intention to stay for a few months. Then, over 4 years later, I was still there! I discovered the rich history of artisanal craftsmanship and creativity in Colombia, which inspired me to learn crafts of my own. I started selling in local markets and became part of a wonderful artisan community that few foreigners can say they have had the privilege of experiencing. They welcomed me in with open arms and heavily supported me in the learning of macrame and resin.
My time in Colombia eventually reached an end and I decided to return home to North Wales. I found myself missing Colombia and wanting to find a way to reconnect with these amazing artisans in a way that could benefit the development of their work.
I contacted my Colombian friends and after many discussions, new ideas, and ethical considerations, Sahí was born.
OUR ETHOS:
Our mission is to showcase these incredible, traditional skills to the world. We want people to discover this beautiful decorative art and jewellery, innate to Colombian culture, that would otherwise remain unknown to the U.K.
Our aim is to support Colombian artisans and their work, just as they supported me and my work. I want to thank Colombia and it’s people for their inspiration, support and love.
We believe in a creative process that remains slow and respectful of nature, and our ethos is centred around the idea of embracing a natural way of life. The creations that we make are produced directly from the Earth, so respecting and embracing nature’s offerings is at the heart of Sahí.
