What is a Hummingbear and where does it live?
The Hummmingbear is a mystical creature. He can be quite serious at times but mostly he is a delightful, if mischievous, fellow and a perfect representation of my art.
Hummingbear Studio features both my original paintings and limited-edition prints. Each painting tells a story but one that is open to interpretation. By dint of the subject matter (mostly a menagerie of vintage stuffed animals, and live beasts too), my paintings appeal to kids. There is often a sense of sweetness, whimsy and innocence, a magical feeling that anything might happen. At the same time many of my paintings have a wryness or a deeper, perhaps darker and more uncertain side, that speaks to adults. A Hummingbear painting could make itself at home in almost any room of the house.
Currently, Hummingbear Studio is based in San Francisco, CA. My daughter and I share an art room in our home where together we paint, fend off my inquiring husband and the attack puppy, and pet the depressed cat. All in all it’s a good time. I hope you enjoy the show.
