tl;dr: I learned a new skill and ran with it
So what happened was in the fall of 2019 I got weirdly into watching Royalty Soaps videos (dat ADHD hyperfixation). I decided I was going to give handmade Christmas gifts that year so I learned how to make soap myself.
Turns out it's a whole lot of fun! I've learned so much in the year and a half or so since I started soaping and I only get more and more into it. I really, truly love making soap, but I can't possibly use as much as I make, and it does get expensive! This is how Fictitious Soaps, my passion project, my darling unicorn baby, was born.
Fictitious is my attempt to build a self-sustaining creative outlet. I'm not trying to get rich; I just want to keep doing this one thing that makes me happy and gives me a sense of accomplishment. This is my therapy, my Zen space. I get a big ol' hit of dopamine every time someone favorites or purchases a soap (and being first in line at the post office is also unexpectedly gratifying).
Fictitious is, in addition to being committed to producing quality handcrafted, vegan cold-process soap made with no harsh detergents, environmentally conscious! I package and ship in primarily biodegradable, recyclable materials. I'm working on swapping my cellophane tape for paper packing tape, which is the only part of my packaging that is made of plastic.
