Hi, I’m Dustin, and I make dice.
My journey began with a heartfelt project inspired by our family cat, Rikku, who had been with us for wonderful years. When it was time to say goodbye, we wanted a unique way to honor her memory. Something more meaningful than an urn on a mantel.
As a family of Dungeons and Dragons players, the idea came to us: why not incorporate a small amount of Rikku’s ashes into custom dice? I explored hiring someone to make these memorial dice but realized that for the cost of commissioning four sets - one for each family member - I could purchase the tools and materials to try making them myself.
And so began my journey. With my wife’s blessing, I dove into learning the art of dice-making. I taught myself to create custom 3D STL files with fonts I wanted to use, and craft molds that display a logo and sample of the font used. I learned how to incorporate different coloring agents into resin, how to use different techniques. There were plenty of mistakes along the way, but also moments of encouraging success. Eventually, I made the memorial dice, and my family loved them.
“These are great! You could sell ones like these,” my kids said. And that’s how IceShadow Productions was born. Today, I create handmade dice sets, custom 3D-printed masters, and molds for dice enthusiasts like you.
