Inside out and over . . . . . . . . . et . . . . Voila!
Purple striped tank top to scarf to shop name . . . .
The Inside Out & Over Scarf was inspired by a still-in-good-shape tank top passed on to me by my sister. It had been a favorite but simply would not wear out and she was tired of wearing it. It did not look right on me; it looked right on her. So I cut it up and made a scarf for her, needing to use as much of the shirt as possible as it was small, so seams and all, deciding they would be an intentional part of the design. She loves it.
And as I was working on one for myself, my shop name just popped into my head and I realized that it really defined what I love to do: use fabric I find from other than the fabric store, fabric already 'in circulation'. I love the idea of taking an item of interesting fabric no longer usable in it's present form, washing it, salvaging the intact components of it and then using it in an entirely different way. Vintage preferred . . . .
And I really do love the process involved in Christmas stocking making.
The Christmas stockings are to me a form of art from a dressmaking and design background. I can implement meticulous finishing details with fabrics I love but in a more manageably sized form.
Vintage sewing patterns are now part of the offerings of Inside Out & Over. I have been collecting them for years, some to use but mostly because I love what they look like. I love the Mod '60's in particular and certain aspects of the 70's are growing on me, but I also have a fascination with the intricate detailing of patterns of earlier decades.
And occasionally a vintage ready-made item, such as an interesting hat, finds it's way into my shop. Because it needs a home.
