Classic Corn Cob Pipes
Irontown Pipes is inspired by the classic bulldog cobs popular in the middle of the 20th century. These diamond-shank cobs were more difficult to make than the standard cob pipes, and eventually faded away.
My cobs come in two types, handmade and mods. The handmade ones are made by me from start to finish, from boring out a raw dried cob to final finish. Mods are stock pipes that I have bought and modified, often substantially, to create a new pipe.
All cobs have a hardwood plug in the bottom, and a conically-bored chamber bottom. The diamond shank cobs have a hardwood tenon to strengthen the joint between the bowl and shank, just like the originals. I frequently use cherry but also sometimes use other woods such as birch, maple, or olive. Stems are vulcanite, not cheap plastic.
I hope the pipe you buy will be a companion for years to come. There's a reason corn cob pipes have been a beloved part of so many pipe racks for so long! Give it a little love and care, like you would a briar, and your Irontown pipe will stay with you bowl after bowl.
