Tropical Art on Reclaimed Wood

We are Dave and Lori Carpenter of Sarasota Florida and we work with pallet wood, fence wood and wood from shipping crates to create one of a kind tropical art. Our love for the beauty and uniqueness of each piece of wood is obvious in the finished products which hang in homes across the United States.

We started out with the goal to make a sign post for our back yard to commemorate the great vacations and islands we have had the pleasure to visit. Now, almost 5 years later there is no sign in our yard…. Our work is inspired by our love of the water, boating, vacations, trop rock music and living in paradise….. Island Time Signs are all about escapism …. And we love our part time job.

We let the wood speak to us! Some pieces are stained before being painted, others with less character are painted using the knots and nail holes to enhance the beauty of the finished product. The rare unique boards are painted ‘naked’ directly on the raw wood, each is then double coated with polyurethane to preserve and enhance the beauty. A set of saw tooth hangers is attached to each piece for hanging.

We love the challenge of custom work and will work with the customer and do extra research to assure the final product meets and exceeds their expectations.
You can expect to see visible knots, knot holes, nails, nail holes or minor cracks in each piece. It is the nature of the materials we use and adds to the uniqueness if each piece.
