A Girl and Some Mud: The Story...
I forget sometimes that it all started in high school. My favourite art project in Grade 8 was making a coil vase with faces on it (that was the actual assignment!) and that was my introduction to ceramics! 10 years later I finally got myself booked in to a pottery class and started playing with clay again. This time it was my grandmother who had inspired me. In recent trips to visit her in Botswana (where I grew up) I saw all her gorgeous creations and heard about how much fun she was having learning how to make pottery. The idea lay dormant for a few years as I finished my uni degree (Interior Architecture) and when I finally had some more time, off I went and I haven't stopped since then!
Then, in 2020, as with many creatives, I found myself at a crossroads. The studio I went to had closed for lockdown and I found myself in possession of a wheel but no way to fire my work. I made the (quite frankly insane) decision to purchase a new kiln despite not yet having sold a single piece of pottery! One and a half years later I quit my job (honestly it's no fun staring at a computer screen and writing emails all day anyway) and here I am! Since then I have been selling on my website and at markets around Perth.
My most popular product by far is garlic graters so I always make sure I have plenty in stock but I also love to explore earrings and mug designs too. There are always so many ideas in my head about what to make and never enough time to do them all! I hope you enjoyed reading this and if you decide to buy something from my store, just know you are a special kind of person and I definitely do a little happy dance whenever an order comes through (followed by an excited announcement to my boyfriend or family, whoever is nearer to me at the time!).
