J2R Designs Handmade Wood Accessory Story
In the heart of my workshop, where the scent of freshly cut wood dances in the air, my passion for crafting with my hands was kindled. It all began in Jr. High School, where the beauty of transforming raw timber into functional art captured my imagination. Fast forward to my junior year in high school—a turning point that saw me crafting a handmade oak table for my mother. Little did I know that this labor of love would not only win 3rd place in a state competition but set the stage for a lifelong love affair with woodworking.
Over the past 30+ years, I've immersed myself in the artistry of woodworking, embracing a myriad of wood species and refining techniques that have only deepened the quality of my craft. Every grain tells a story, and every piece I create carries with it the lessons learned from countless hours in the workshop.
The catalyst for turning my passion into a business came in 2016, courtesy of my wife and an episode of Shark Tank featuring wooden bow ties. Her encouragement became the spark that ignited a new chapter in my woodworking journey. From those initial bow ties, I ventured into designing a diverse range of products for both men and women—each piece not just a fashion statement, but a solution to everyday problems.
In my creations, you'll find a fusion of domestic and exotic woods, with a preference for the latter. Exotic woods, with their unique characteristics and breathtaking beauty, add a touch of rarity to every piece. My journey has turned me into a wood species aficionado, a self-proclaimed woodworking nerd who delights in exploring the nuances of each type of wood.
As I stand amidst my creations, I'm reminded that the journey is as important as the destination. I remain a perpetual student of the craft, eagerly soaking in the wisdom of fellow artisans, always yearning to push the boundaries of what's possible in woodworking.
