About

Timeless Jewelry and JOAT (Jack of all Trades) Studio

"Who threw their watches off the roof to cast their ballot for eternity outside of Time, and alarm clocks fell on their heads everyday for the next decade"

excerpt from "Howl" by Allen Ginsberg

My husband and I are both artists. When we opened our first studio 13 years ago we wanted to establish a name that reflected both of us and the wide array of skills we possess. We finally settled on an old blue collar term we had both grow up with hearing often used, Jack of all Trades, or JOAT for short. There we both create the fine art that we show out at galleries, Shawn working with acrylic painting and sculpture, me working with the old processes of photography in my darkroom and making handmade paper and books.

I started making jewelry about 10 years ago as a side interest, and selling it out of our studio when we had Open House days. It was well received, so I continued making more and placing it in consignment in a few stores around town here in Portland, Oregon. About 2 years ago, I stumbled across some watch movement parts that intrigued me with the sophistication and craftsmanship that went into creating these precision machined parts. I started playing with jewelry designs that would showcase their design and elegance, creating understated pieces that went with everything, but managed to consistently catch people's interest and become great conversation pieces.

As demand for these pieces grew, I found myself having the great problem of they were selling faster than I could produce them. So I finally decided to take the leap and rented space with StuStuStudio, a local jewelry store and workshop. I am now blessed to be able to make my jewelry and work on my art full time.
