Avoid air and humidity

Tarnish, or dark silver is caused by oxygen and humidity. Keeping each item separately, in a Ziploc bag or Tupperware box, is the easiest way to avoid tarnish. Rooms that become humid, the bathroom or kitchen, are not the best places to store your jewelry especially if not in airtight containers.

Wear it often

Your natural skin oils helps prevent tarnish so wearing it often will help.

Polishing cloths will remove tarnish and make your jewelry shine. Give your silver a quick rub with a polishing cloth before storing it in a container or jewelry box.

Washing your jewelry

I use Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile Soap. This is gentle and organic, dish soap perfect for cleaning jewelry with gemstones.
