The Twisted Art of Jaemy C
My name is Jaemy Choong. I am a multi-disciplinary visual artist with a background in advertising, graphic design and production. Most of the time, movies and TV seem to be my source of inspiration.
My art style fuses sumi brush calligraphy, pop culture, cute-but-twisted-sci-fi-fantasy elements, and lots of self-indulgent humour. My inherent indecisiveness in making confident choices have also become a recurring theme in my
works through the years. I can’t help it. I want all the beautiful weirdness in my pieces.
In 2021, I had collaborated with an international sports brand that, tragically, became the scrutiny of the online media in a neighbouring country. As a result, I was intensely cyber-bullied on social media. This experience has impacted me tremendously and will serve as the looming subject of my future art pieces. Prior to this, my early Instagram “mash-up” photography has been featured on numerous media sites such as Buzzfeed, MTV.com, etc. They have also appeared in the French publication "Pirates l'art du détournement culturel".
What you see here are pieces that truly encompass the fun, cheeky side of these 2 different cultures.
