I enjoy making art for a living.
I am a painter. I make art for a living.
I have enjoyed living and working as a full-time painter in New York City for over 15 years.
I feel everyone is creative, I can see it in the clothes people choose, the way homes are decorated and I paint in order to inspire people to unlock their creativity. I wake up seven days a week and go into my studio excited to created new works and inspire people in new ways through hand painted works on paper, jewelry, shirts, scarves and even wine.
My work largely concentrates on the ‘singular’ –an animal, a flower, a building, an object – where the noise of a detailed background or other subject matter has been removed.
I like to leave room for the viewer and prefer not to attach images to a higher power, place or time. I prefer the painting to be about one ‘thing’ … it’s a restraint, or constraint or a rule, let’s say, and within those boundaries the image takes on a different or greater meaning, even.
I have recreated a large number of my paintings as limited edition works on paper, each of which I individually hand paint, number and sign on high quality ‘Arches’ paper.
Keeping within the ‘artist as jeweler’ tradition, I have also re-imagined and produced a selection of my painting images as silver and gold fine jewelry.
In 2010 I founded Jason Oliva [Wine], an ongoing collaboration with South African winemaker Dirk Roos to produce a yearly, private label, limited-edition wine. And in 2011, in collaboration with NYC based art fabricator Karen Atta, I produced my first sculpture ‘Lion’.
I was elected to the Etsy Seller Advisory board for 2016.
On March 27, 2015 Astronaut Scott Kelly and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko honored me by bringing my astronaut t-shirt aboard the International Space Station for their heroic year in space mission.
Ralph Lauren has also chosen eight of my images to be used to decorate Ralph Lauren Kids stores globally.
In 2021 a new Stripey Horse wine brand will be launched in conjunction with Mooiplaas in Stellenbosch
In 2020 Jason Oliva partnered with talented Interior Designer Susan Calabria of Noli Design to form Jason Oliva Interiors.
My work can be found in public and private collections worldwide.

AN A TO Z COLORING BOOK FOR EVERYONE by Jason Oliva
( Published in 2015)
As far back as 2010, I kept in my studio black and white paper copies of some of the images from my sold paintings - such as Gorilla, Lion and Rose - along with a few boxes of crayons, just incase any of the collectors or visitors who came by brought their children along. It was a way of keeping everyone happy: the adults would enjoy some conversation and wine while the children enjoyed some coloring in.
Time and again the adults would join in with the coloring and it would remind them how much they used to enjoy it when they were younger. So it was inevitable perhaps that at some point I would publish a coloring book for children and adults alike.
It is my fondest hope that you spend many a relaxing time coloring in the images within this book.
Feel free to send me pictures of your finished masterpieces!
