Hobby Turns Into Full Time Business
Je m’appelle Jen, je vis à Sugar Land, TX ou certains enfants aiment l’appeler Candy Land.
Je suis une artiste joaillière autodidacte complète et je fabrique des bijoux depuis 20 ans.
J’ai commencé à faire des bijoux comme passe-temps alors que j’étais à l’école des beaux-arts. C’était Noël, j’étais un collégien fauché et je voulais faire des cadeaux pour mes amis et ma famille. Je me suis installé sur des bijoux faits à la main. Je me suis dit, à quel point cela pourrait-il être difficile? Je ne savais pas qu’il y avait une bonne et une mauvaise façon de le concevoir et de le construire. J’ai beaucoup appris au cours de mes 16 années de fabrication de bijoux et je me suis depuis longtemps excusé auprès de ces destinataires de cadeaux. Ces bijoux sont maintenant surnommés « les pièces vintage de Jen ». (juste une façon polie de dire des morceaux de merde.)
Heureusement, mes styles ont évolué au cours des 16 dernières années et je suis toujours impatiente d’apprendre de nouvelles techniques de bijoux intéressantes, grâce aujourd’hui à YouTube ;) Ma dernière entreprise est la fabrication de bijoux estampillés à la main.
J’ai ensuite obtenu un baccalauréat en beaux-arts avec un certificat d’enseignement en 1999. J’ai enseigné l’art élémentaire public pendant 6 ans et j’ai constaté que la fabrication de bijoux était un important moyen de soulager le stress après l’école. Je me suis mariée en 2004 et j’ai eu mon premier enfant en 2006. Tragiquement, nous l’avons perdu dans un accident en 2008. Cela a pris un certain temps, mais encore une fois, je me suis tourné vers mon art pour me réconforter. Nous avons ensuite honoré la mémoire de Ian en ayant sa sœur en 2009 et son frère en 2010.
En 2011, j’ai trouvé ETSY et je suis heureux de dire que mon passe-temps est devenu une entreprise à temps plein. Aujourd’hui, je m’occupe de mes petits et je voyage dans l’État du Texas pour vendre mes bijoux lors de foires et de festivals de beaux-arts. Je peux porter mes PJ au travail, je fais la navette de la cafetière à mon home studio, la vie est toujours belle!

I'm a complete self taught jewelry artist and have been making jewelry for 20 years.
I first started making jewelry as a hobby while in Fine Art school. It was Christmas, I was a broke college kid and I wanted to make gifts for my friends and family. I settled on handmade jewelry. I thought, how hard could it be? Little did I know, there is a right and wrong way in designing and constructing it. I have learned MUCH in my 16 years of jewelry making and I have long since apologized to those gift recipients. That jewelry is now dubbed "Jen's vintage pieces." (just a polite way of says crap pieces.)
Thankfully, my styles have evolved over the last 16 years and I'm always eager to learn new and interesting jewelry techniques, thanks today to YouTube ;) My latest venture is hand stamped jewelry making.
I went on to graduate with a BFA with a teaching certificate in 1999. I taught public elementary Art for 6 years and found that jewelry making was a major after school stress reliever. I got married in 2004 and had my first child in 2006. Tragically, we lost him in an accident in 2008. It took a while but again, I turned to my Art for solace. We went on to honor Ian's memory by having his sister in 2009 and his brother in 2010.
In 2011 I found ETSY and I am happy to say my hobby has become a full time business. Today, I keep busy with my little ones and travel the state of Texas selling at Fine Art Fairs and Festivals selling my jewelry. I get to wear my PJ's to work, I commute from the coffee pot to my home studio, life is still good!
