I like to say that I have been sewing from the womb. My mom taught me to sew when I was very young. In fact, I used to take her sewing machine apart. One time I took so many screws out, she and my dad had hard time putting the sewing machine back together! I used to play in her scrap basket and sew bits of fabric together to create little quilts and clothes for my stuffed animals.

I enjoy sewing for myself, but it is even more fun when I get to share my passion with friends. Whether it’s finishing a wedding quilt or helping a friend sew an animal of her own, I enjoy it all.

One day, I made my friend’s daughter a rhino in a tutu. She used the phrase “Jessie’s Toy Box” and it just stuck with me, and the idea of having an Etsy shop focused on animals was born. It started with a yellow rhino in a pink tutu and has grown to include hippos, aardvarks, tortoises, cats, koalas, kangaroos, and an octopus or two. Now animals have taken over my world and they are just waiting to find a new home!
