I'm creating medical accessories that are highly functional, but also beautiful: Preseted here finger splints look like stylish rings.
Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but I think that after beholding most medical accessories, they look incredibly unattractive—and are often not as pragmatically designed as they could be.
Hello, my name is Masha.
I am an occupational therapist and a jeweler.
During my every day therapeutic work, I help many patients by designing, constructing and fitting the hand/finger splints, customized to answer their particular functional and medical needs.
Though the braces fulfill the functional requirements, they are mainly made of plastic materials and lack elegance – fact that always bothered me.
As a result, it was only natural for me to combine my two passions – treatment and arts, and pursue the ultimate splint design – practical and fashionable.
After many trials and errors, I came up with the concept of JewelSplint.
JewelSplints are made of sterling silver, gold or their combination.
A very important feature of the JewelSplint is its adjustability.
One can slightly adjust the width and length of the splint when first received and during the day, when the temperature variations affect the finger size.
I 'm very proud in the fact that I have never use mass-produced findings in my work. I always make my own ear wires and clasps and every little detail. I also always enjoy the creative challenge of coming up with new ideas and of solving new problems.
