Artisan jewellery handmade in Australia
I have always liked to 'make stuff', (in fact I come from a long line of 'makers' , mostly makers out of necessity , due to the limited access in years gone by to trades people in the bush, and a do it yourself mentality). And I always loved jewellery, moving towards metal work a few years ago, after many decades of beads, and beading.
One of my four sons inspired me to 'have a go' at metal fabrication when I saw his beautiful work with sterling silver, and my other sons and their partners support me, especially my daughter in law Elizabeth, who helps with all the social networking. I am afraid my brain remains analog in this digital time.
I am self taught, with the help of many google searches, many, many hours of viewing on you tube, and assorted books on all aspects of the process. And I have a lot more to learn!
I gave up my 'real' job as a mental health nurse to explore the endless possibilities of life a few years ago, now happliy spend my time between my adult children, my grandchildren and my many interests, focusing on making jewellery that I like. I am a regular at our local Bathurst Artisan Market, and love being part of the small Pym St Market in Millthorpe, NSW, which is not far from my home in Bathurst.
I work alone in my backyard shed (rustic would be a very flattering description of it), I make my pieces from scratch, out of Australian manufactured recycled sterling silver, recycled copper and brass.
I love to hand saw, hammer, sand/file and shape, and adore open fired enamel and the pop of colour it brings to my collection.
What inspires me?? Everything, the bush, the city, the coast, the red outback, the people, the flora, the fauna of my beautiful Australia, and all round the world.
Thanks again for visiting, and hopefully, return soon!
