Nature inspired wallpaper, home textiles and colouring pages
I'm a designer with a passion for repeating patterns, 2 dimensional design, colour and coloured pencils. As a child I loved drawing, colouring, and trying my hands at every kind of art project that looked interesting. My mom was a Biology and Geography teacher, but she studied art on her own and started teaching it to grade 5-8 students. I enjoyed doing all the class assignments she did at home in preparation for her classes. She also introduced me to Hungarian folk art, flowers and insects we came across on our walks.
I graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design with an Associate Diploma in Illustration and a Bachelor of Design degree, After graduating I worked at a children's clothing company as a graphic artist. I was responsible for creating repeating patterns and presentation boards. At that time I had no idea how patterns worked, and had to figure it out from scratch. Before long I was addicted to making them, because they were like puzzles, and I like puzzles.:-)
The job was interesting, but I wanted to create my own textiles. Since digital printing wasn't widely available at that time, I printed my own textile using my inkjet printer and freezer paper, and made greeting cards out of them.
After greeting cards, I started designing wallcoverings, rugs and textiles and that's what I do now.
I live in Toronto with my husband Ed and my son Ben. Besides visual arts and design I love dance and karate.
