Handmade Rustic Jewelry, Artisan Crafted by Judy of JudysDesigns
My story started as a child loving jewelry and I have always been creative in various areas of art.
When my daughter got her ears pierced and was asking for jewelry, we started collaborating and designing for ourselves as a fun mother-daughter activity. It quickly took off from there. It has been very rewarding to be here since the early days of Etsy. I’ve gained great friends, customers and experience along the way.
My degree is in Art but I'm self-taught in metalworking and enameling using some of the skills I learned in school. My products are unique. Most of the collections start with raw materials like sheet metal and wire. Designs can be customized to the client when you make each piece. There’s quite a bit of shaping, hammering, filing, sanding, enameling or using a torch in my shop. Many pieces reflect my love of sculpture and color. Many are wearable one-of-a-kind art pieces. I also enjoy telling a story whether it is the piece itself lending a story (my aluminum hoop earrings are upcycled from material leftover from replacing airplane struts) or one I make with components I have fabricated, purchased or found.
I love beads: pearls, turquoise, gemstones, tagua and acai beads. You will find my designs sprinkled with them from time to time but my favorite is manipulating metal. I use copper, brass, sterling silver and gold filled metal in my designs. My designs include fold form metalwork, hammered metal, enameling, wire wrapping and treating the metal to obtain unique patina colors. Many of my jewelry designs have a rustic or boho look. The earthy, organic and natural products used attribute to this overall feel but my treatment of metal does as well.
I run a one-person shop from our property overlooking the mountains of Northwest Georgia.
