Behind the blue door there’s magic.

My name is BJ. I always have paint on my clothes and a smile on my face.

My name is BJ and I am the sole owner and creator here at Junk’d Up. I am a native New Yorker having been born and raised on the south shore of Long Island. I spent 10 years in NYC as a twenty-something and 3 years just outside Washington, DC before moving our family to Indiana.

Throughout my life I have always nurtured my creative side. I dabbled in furniture painting out of necessity as a poor college grad making my way in NYC and then as a new mom with a growing family and a shrinking budget.

As my kids grew and I found myself with more free time I spent more time and energy painting furniture. I was asked by friends to sell some pieces and by other friends to paint their pieces custom for them and a business was born. It was and continues to be an organic process growing out of my passion.

Painting is my therapy, stress reliever and happy place. I love to share my knowledge with others. I teach a Chalk Paint Essentials class at my local Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Stockist. I am also an instructor with Furniture Painting University for which I develop all my own finishes using lots of different paint lines and products.
