Powering Down
I'm Sarah, the designer behind Sima Toys and Just Off Normal, living and working under the big skies of Texas. My shop story is all about creating fun and personalized items that bring out creative play in children or provide a fun personalized momento. My workshop time is usually in the crazy hours before my inspiration wakes up for the day.
Almost all proceeds from the shop's sales go towards Autism therapies for my littlest workshop helper along with donations to Families for effective Autism Treatment-North Texas (FEAT-NT) to support education and support for the autistic community. I hope to continue providing new items, games, and manipulatives that reflect affordable hands-on learning that is approachable by children of all abilities.
Design has always been my greatest driver. I love solving new problems with my hands and a bit of math. I grew up in a house full of science and exploration and taking things apart or putting things together always has focused me. Once giving up with corporate bustle I started exploring ways of deviously incorporating learning into all natural toys for my young ones- battery free. I work primarily with hardwoods such as maple, alder, cherry, and walnut.
My designs are a mix of the developmental toys generated for my household and natural and play toys made just for fun. I try to incorporate fun designs and inspire learning through play. If you have a game your child or family has created- I'd love the opportunity to make your game boards and pieces a reality.
Etsy's wonderful handmade marketplace and community has been a great source of inspiration as the people drive you to create something unique that can be cherished. I've enjoyed coming up with custom pieces to mark weddings, anniversary's and make special Christmas wishes come true.
In my shop you can find original games as well as inspired toys and designs. All are custom engraved by me using a precision CO2 laser for accuracy and detail. Many of the designs are hand drawn or use licensed art. i have also used photographs and portraits to create one of a kind memorials and keepsakes.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
