Kabinshop story.
I opened Kabinshop in summer 2015. I have spent my lifetime drawing, painting, making things and working as a make-up artist and illustrator for numerous publications from Vogue to The Observer. I have never worked for anyone in a full time job, i have always been self employed. After my degree in Textile design at Central Saint Martins school of Art i became an illustrator and later make-up artist. Much later i bought some clay and began making ceramics and totally fell in love with it. I am completely self taught but the subject is vast so i will never stop learning. Everything i make is totally made with my hands, i don't use a potters wheel and nothing is slip cast. All my glazes are painstakingly painted on. I like every piece to be unique or part of a small batch.
All my cards are either hand painted originals or designed by me from an illustration i have made or a photograph i have taken.
I am very concerned with sustainability, recycling, making the things i need and rejecting fast fashion. I try my best to be a minimalist and only own beautiful or useful objects. I have struggled with the idea of bringing yet more products in to the world so hope that this is what i am making. Something you will own forever. Your item will always arrive perfectly packaged but i use 100% recycled bubble wrap, line all my shipping boxes with recycled cardboard and try to make my own envelopes.
I work from home in a converted pet food factory. I love the whole process of making, from thinking of ides, sketching them, watching something form in my hands and take on a life of its own then firing and glazing and waiting to see if the finished item looks anything like i hoped! Its a long process! I have so many ideas for new items to make, its an ongoing journey!
Kabin means Vase in Japanese , it seemed like a fitting title as i have begun to make vases and vessels in ceramics and of course its my home to all my products !
I have just opened a second Etsy shop to sell my vintage finds called vintagekabinstore, please wait as it slowly builds listings!
