My name is Jenny from Jakarta, Indonesia, and here's the story of how I started Kain Kain. What began as a hobby in my basement, KainKain has now sold over 30.000 products worldwide. Not long after I graduated as an engineer, I realized that engineering wasn't what I wanted to do, so I started working in the financial industry. Surprisingly, that's where my fascination and obsession with fabric began. As I designed my office attire for work, I quickly realized how much I enjoyed searching through the different fabrics and accessories. Often, I bought fabrics just because I loved the texture, printing, or color, without knowing what I would make from them.

I first knew about home linen when I went shopping for my first home. As I searched for the different home products, I was amazed to see the variety of home linen products available. The range of colors, patterns, and designs were endless, and I fell in love with embroidered home linen. However, most of them were not sold in Jakarta. And so, I decided to challenge myself. I designed the bed linen, curtains, and pillow covers that I wanted for my new home and made it. When it was all finished, and I saw how beautiful my home became, I knew I wasn't going to stop. I saw an opportunity. I began looking for bazaars, exhibitions, and venues where I could start selling my home linen products.

In 2004, at one of the bazaars I joined, I got my first order from Home Furnishing Retailers in Jakarta. In the same year, I quit my day job. After some years working with home furnishing retailers and interior design companies, I decided to establish my own and start a journey on Etsy and other marketplaces. KainKain was born in end of 2008, and it was undeniably the best decision I've ever made.
