Lieu – où les humains rencontrent les espaces qu’ils ont créés.
En tant que designer urbain, urbaniste et photographe, je suis sans cesse fasciné par l’intersection des personnes et des lieux. Mes 17 années d’expérience dans la conception et la manipulation du monde physique ont façonné la façon dont j’observe mon environnement et affiné ma vision en tant que photographe, capturant des images des détails que d’autres oublient souvent – la juxtaposition de matériaux, la position vigilante d’une gargouille insaisissable dans une entrée, la façon dont les couleurs fusionnent pendant un moment au crépuscule avant de changer, Encore une fois.
Pour moi, la photographie consiste à documenter les espaces qui non seulement servent de toile de fond à nos vies, mais racontent le récit de notre histoire et de notre culture.
Cela s’étend également à mon objectif humain – capturer les moments banals qui finissent par définir nos vies. Jouer sur le terrain de jeu, laver la vaisselle – des actes qui ne sont pas extraordinaires à tous points de vue, mais qui sont pourtant un aspect humain fondamental, et une ode à notre place dans le monde en tant qu’humains, familles, amants. Cet élément de ma pratique a été animé par mes deux jeunes filles, relatant les petits moments qui deviendront si grands au fil du temps.
Une grande partie de mon attention a été portée sur la ville que j’aime et que j’appelle chez moi - Chicago. Qu’il s’agisse d’un bâtiment ou d’un point de repère célèbre, d’un joyau ou d’un détail caché, ma photographie vise à célébrer cette ville merveilleuse et culturellement riche.
Place — where humans meet the spaces they have created.
As an urban designer, planner, and photographer, I am endlessly fascinated with the intersection of people and place. My 17 years of experience in designing and manipulating the physical world has shaped the way I observe my environment, and honed my vision as a photographer, capturing images of the details that others often overlook — the juxtaposition of materials, the watchful stance of an elusive gargoyle in an entryway, the ways colors coalesce for just a moment during dusk before they change, once again.
Photography, to me, is about documenting the spaces that not only serve as the backdrop to our lives, but tell the narrative of our history and culture.
This extends to my human focus, as well — capturing the commonplace moments that ultimately come to define our lives. Playing on the playground, washing the dishes — acts that are un-extraordinary by any metric, yet bely a fundamental human aspect, and an ode to our place in the world as humans, families, lovers. This element of my practice has been driven by my two young daughters, chronicling the little moments that will grow to be so big as time advances.
Much of my focus has been on the city I love and call home--Chicago. Whether the subject is a famous building or landmark or a hidden gem or detail, my photography aims to celebrate this wonderful and culturally-rich city.
