My name is John, together with my wife Stacy, and our three adult sons, we own and operate Keystone Carving LLC here in Pennsylvania. We make artisan wood products, and our specialty is making heirloom quality quilter’s clappers.
My sons and I own and operate a Residential Remodeling Company. In addition, we offer computer graphic design and 3D wood carving.
Stacy arrived at a new chapter in life called "FREE TIME" after teaching both elementary and high school for 14 years. She enjoyed sewing for many years and decided to peruse something she dreamed of doing for a long time--quilting.
While she was gathering tools and supplies, she realized she needed a clapper. When she asked me to make her one our conversation was comical, “What on earth is a quilter's clapper and how does a thing like that even work?” was my reply. So, after doing some research, I made her four hardwood Cherry clappers in different sizes and because we just so happened to have a CNC wood carving system, I carved her name with butterflies into each clapper. Needless to say, she loved them. For me this was a one-time thing for my wife, so I thought, but for months Stacy consistently encouraged our sons and me to start selling them. She kept saying “the girls will love them”. So, in late summer of 2023 we made sixty cherry clappers and listed them here on Etsy as a trial run. By God’s grace they sold out very quickly.
Today, the clappers made by Keystone Carving are the most popular on Etsy with three of the clapper types achieving and holding Etsy’s BESTSELLER rating. We love Etsy because it connects us to likeminded people who also love making things with their hands while at the same time supporting small businesses.
I enjoy watching Stacy quilt because quilting exposes some of her many qualities. Especially her creativity and commitment to excellence. In my observation it takes a special type of person to make sewing and quilt art. This is why we enjoy making a sewing/quilting tool that is equal to the product being made with it and that is one of heirloom quality.
