I have been making books since around 1997, when my sister took a class in binding at the Maryland Institute, College of Art. We both took to it immediately, and when I started my MFA at the University of Baltimore, the skills became incredibly important to my work in the Creative Writing and Publishing Arts program. I loved it so much, in fact, that I later taught book arts in the program for five years.

Many of my earlier books are tiny; some, in fact, are less than 3 inches in every direction. Lately, they’ve been getting bigger, and I’ve grown to explore materials besides paper and fabrics like Sculpey clay, tape, plastic baggies — even baby lima beans.
