My love of vintage images originated in childhood. When I was growing up my mother, who is an artist, paid the bills by restoring old photographs. Long before Photoshop, this was painstaking process. Paint, pencils, dyes and airbrushing went into restoring the images. Sometimes the photos would be around for months while they went through the many stages of restoration. I was alway mesmerized by the people in the photos. I loved their clothing (another obsession of mine.) I would imagine their lives and invent stories about them. When I grew old enough, my first job was the last step in the process, hand coloring the photographs in oil.
Times have changed but my love of all things vintage have not. I have large collections of vintage photographs, cards and all forms of ephemera. I love finding old postcards and other items, often discarded due to too much damage and being able to bring them new life.
My love of candles comes from the same place. There was always a candle burning in the studio. I have been making candles for years playing with wax, fragrances and containers until finally settling on what I like.
This is a way for me to a combine two of my passions. Giving new life to often lost designs from a different era. Used in a way to add warmth and a soft glow to our modern lives.
