Softies and patchwork with a modern sensibility.
I learned to sew from my grandmother, my mom, and my home ec teacher—in that order. While I occasionally crafted bags or sock monkeys in high school and college, it wasn't until my 23rd birthday, when my mom bought me my own machine, that I was hooked. After making curtains for the entire apartment, I moved on to bags and skirts for me. Then I learned patchwork and quilting and became even more obsessed.
Now, two sewing machine upgrades later, I'm still stitching away on a variety of projects. I use my weekends to work on my machine (which I've named Gloria), and weeknights to clip, turn, stuff, and finish all my plush projects. I'm often found on the couch watching a Law & Order marathon and with a cocktail nearby, a cat on my lap, and threads or stuffing on everything. My writer husband tolerates this very sweetly.
When I'm not sewing for my shop, I'm working on handmade gifts for friends, friends' new babies, or sewing up a wardrobe of my own. Hand stitching is my most favorite thing to do.
I make time to play, too! My husband and I go to the movies almost every weekend, eat out when we can, and enjoy many many many craft beers at home. I use my commute to read 20+ books a year, and take 30-minutes stitch breaks at my office job whenever I can.
So, why is my shop called "Kitty Kitty Crafts"? When I first started my blog in 2008, I didn't know what to call it. My initials are KK, and my husband and I had two cats at that time, so Kitty Kitty Crafts just fit. We now only have one kitty, Iris, but she's cute and spunky enough to count as two!
