There was never the question of what I would do when I grew up.
At the age of 15, I sat down at my first sewing machine & fell in love with sewing. I knew I was going to creating beautiful things.
I began sewing professionally in my Mother's alteration shop in Indianapolis, IN. As I was learning about clothing construction and had an interest in fashion, I was able to start making patterns. I designed some of my own creations, which I consigned out at a unique local shop in Broad Ripple, IN.
In my early 20's, I moved to Naples, FL and made the shift to soft home furnishings, starting at my aunt's upholstery shop. She provided me with some professional training in my newly acquired trade.
The knowledge I'd gathered up to this point led me into a position to take in some basic carpentry skills in the form of cornice and headboard fabrication. I enjoyed this as my specialty for many years and still appreciate being given the opportunity to "play" with these types of projects.
I've had the happy chance to work with and learn from some of the best in the industry in alteration & upholstery shops, drapery workrooms, as well as a startup furniture factory. My most loved projects have predominantly been slipcovers. I'm happy that Etsy has provided this avenue to share the fabrication experience I've affectionately acquired with you!
